The Birkdale Neuro Rehabilitation Centre has joined forces with the Transverse Myelitis Society for our one-day neurophysiotherapy training course on treating transverse myelitis.
Training Course:
Treating Transverse Myelitis
Saturday 12th May 2018
Our aim, in holding this one-day practical training, is to help neurophysiotherapists to improve their understanding of the symptoms and treatment techniques for better long-term management of TM (and related conditions, ADEM, AFM and NMO).
Farshideh Bondarenko, lead practitioner at the Birkdale Neuro Rehabilitation Centre, will present the course. Farshideh has extensive experience treating patients with TM and became closely involved with the TM Society in 2004. During the course, Farshideh will discuss the brain networks that can be affected by TM and how damage to these networks presents itself in symptoms. Farshideh will emphasise the value of using sensory modalities such as visual, vestibular and tactile stimuli, to help handle the movement, balance, and gait deficits associated with TM. There will also be a practical session in the afternoon, with our resident neurophysiotherapists, who will explain how they assess TM and key areas of focus for treatment.
The Transverse Myelitis Society will fund the training, so it will be free for participants. Attendees will, however, be expected to cover, or have their employer cover their own travel costs.
