It is said “The eyes have it.”
As neuro physiotherapists, it is important that we understand the role of oculomotor function in our patient groups. On Saturday the 19th November 2022 we will be running a face to face one-day training course (at our clinic in Isleworth) for practitioners on Oculomotor Disorders.
This training will be run by Farshideh Bondarenko founder and owner of Birkdale Paediatric & Adult Neuro Physio Clinic. At the end of this training, we also will send you a presentation by Mr Bhavin Shah, behavioural optometrist. Bhavin Shah has over 23 years of experience in improving the vision of his patients. He specialises in helping children with reading & learning difficulties including dyslexia & dyspraxia and visual tracking.
Individuals with impairment to the central nervous frequently have higher visual disorders i.e. visual deficit following injury to cortical brain structures. Such impairments can lead to the development of disorders including:
-
- Strabismus
- Visual field loss
- Ocular motor disorders
- Binocular vision dysfunctions
- Deficiencies in visuomotor integration
- Complications in visual perception
- Reduced visual acuity
At Birkdale Paediatric & Adult Neuro Physio Clinic, we have been using the Tobii Dynavox Eye Gazing System since 2014 to observe saccadic, pursuit and vertical eye movements. This has given us more understanding of how the eyes and the proprioceptive system work together to enable people to improve their motor planning, balance reactions and eye directed body movements. When our clients recognise how their eye and body movements work together, they can transfer their weight much more effectively and improve their balance mechanisms.
Aims of the course: to bring awareness of ocular motor disorders and their effect on body movements.
Learning Outcomes:
-
- To get an overview of the neuro anatomy
- To have a good understanding of the ocular motor skills
- Visual perception
- Eye movement and balance
- How to incorporate eye movements into our rehabilitation
Cost: £100 – Places are limited to a maximum of 10 people
