1st Year Anniversary – Paper, Going for Gold
We are so very pleased to announce that we are celebrating our 1st year Anniversary here at the Birkdale Neuro Rehabilitation Centre and would like to take the time to reflect on our journey so far.
From a single room clinic within her beautiful home, where she worked independently for over 25 years, Farshideh took a large step to create her lifelong vision of an all encompassing neurological centre. The first phase, to find the right space, following 2 years of searching the streets of West London Farshideh came across a hidden gem. The space was an empty shell but its potential was seen instantly and following just 5 months an incredible and beautiful environment had been created.
So, on October the 15th 2013, with the fresh smell of paint in the air and a layer of sawdust on the ground, the team moved in on mass to complete the finishing touches and iron out any remaining creases. On October 16st we were officially open for business and our existing clients all kindly joined us to help with our transition from Ealing to Alperton. To mark the occasion, toward the end of November we had our very first Christmas party, to celebrate in true Birkdale style with drinks, music, food and dancing, to enable us to show our gratitude to everyone.
Over the course of the last 12 months the Centre has flourished in many ways; from the creation of the Japanese garden within which clients, relatives, carers and staffs have been able to relax and watch the world pass by on the Grand Union Canal, to the introduction of a number of the latest assistive technology in Neuro Rehabilitation. Which include the RT300 FES Cyclone Bike and the Ottobock MyGait drop foot device.
Most crucial to making Farshideh’s dream become a reality, is the creation of an expert team of professionals all working under the same roof, enabling a holistic provision of care to those who require it. So we are very thankful to Orthotists Laura and Alan from RSL Steeper, Laura Spicer Neurolinguistic Practitioner, Joy Rendell Occupational Therapist and Beth Harvey Play Therapist who have all decided to join us here at the centre.
Farshideh, when at home, forever ensured that the environment she created facilitated the rehabilitative process which she achieved through even the smallest of touches. A number of which she endeavoured to carry forth to our new location which has meant the rituals of fresh flowers and the bottomless bowl of chocolates, have continued, much to the relief and enjoyment of many.
And so a year has gone by and we are so pleased and proud to have those individuals who we have known for years and those who we have known only for a few weeks or months, by our side, continuing to support us along our ongoing journey.
