This is a one hour, online training course organised by the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology, delivered by our lead Neuro-physiotherapist Farshideh Bondarenko.
In recent years there has been a shift in paediatric (and adult) neuro-rehabilitation to focus on sensation as well as on motor function. It is well evidenced that functional electrical stimulation (FES) can be used to improve sensation. Use of FES counters sensory deficits on three levels: improved sensations themselves; we can observe the direct perceptual consequences of improved sensation, i.e. improved weight transfer and postural awareness (alignment); Improved sensations work together to improve the symmetry, fluidity and gradation of gross movements.
This training is jointly run by Farshideh Bondarenko from Birkdale Neuro Rehab Centre and APCIN.
